Serious accident on the A 24: Several injuries in carambolage
A tragic incident occurred on September 6th on the A 24 between Meyenburg and Putlitz when a 75-year-old Audi driver at 180 km/h was on the fast lane. The vehicle could not be brought to a standstill in time when a Polish tractor -trailer moved to the left lane. The collision took place at 146.6, with the Audi also crashed into the middle course and finally stopped on the left lane.
The automotive police in Walsleben reported the incident. The 75-year-old was brought to the hospital in Schwerin with mild injuries from a rescue helicopter, while the tractor-trailer was no longer ready to drive after the impact. The highway had to be closed to Hamburg for about 70 minutes to safely carry out the accident recording and the salvage.
Follow the accident and another collision
The closure of the highway led to a backlog, which then caused another accident. An 80-year-old Opel driver overlooked the end of the traffic jam at 152.5 and crashed into a standing VW that was controlled by a 73-year-old German driver. Due to the collision, the VW was pushed against a Hyundai who was driven by a 70-year-old, while he drove against a 78-year-old Mercedes.
The effects of this carambolage were serious. The driver and passenger of the Opel were seriously injured, while the inmates of the VW and the Hyundai suffered minor injuries. Fortunately, the two vehicle occupants were not injured in the Mercedes.
Rescue measures and traffic control system
The injured were quickly transported to the hospital, with the hospitals being involved in Neuruppin, Parchim and Plau am See. In order to ensure the property protection of the vehicles, both the Opel and the VW were temporarily ensured. The directional lane to Hamburg remained closed for a total of two hours and the traffic had to be diverted at the Meyenburg junction.
Such incidents put a light on the importance of forward-looking driving, especially in traffic jam situations. Drivers should always pay attention to the traffic situation and keep sufficient distance.
