Uncertainty about the water protection area: enlargement is delayed

Standstill in terms of water protection area Weißenbronnen

For more than six years, the application for an enlargement of the Weißenbronnen water protection area has been at the Ravensburg district office. This application was submitted by Baienfurt's Mayor Günter A. Binder as chairman of the Wasserverglei Baienfurt-Baindt in 2018. The background was the planned gravel mining area in the Altdorfer Wald near Grund, against which Baienfurt and Baindt defend themselves from the source area between Vogt and Wolfegg due to their drinking water. Nevertheless, little has happened so far because data is obviously missing.

Delay of the water protection area by the gravel pit

A listed hydrogeological report made the expansion of the water protection area ahead. The geologist Hermann Schad examined the catchment area of the sources of Weißenbronnen and found that the existing protected area was too small. This report should clarify whether the source area would be affected by a new gravel pit, but this had no effect on the project, since gravel mining is allowed in the water protection area.

The Ravensburg district office said that the first attempt in February 2018, to create an expert opinion, was unsuccessful because some holes were not deep enough. A new report was submitted in August 2021 after the water age and the nature had been examined.

outstanding results according to the district office

Although further investigations agreed and presented in August 2021, the district office has so far not been available. These include, among other things, a key date measurement and a groundwater equal plan that was already expected in the summer of 2023.

In connection with the planned gravel pit in Vogt, a public scoping date is expected to take place in autumn 2024, followed by the application at the district office in autumn 2025, provided that all application documents are available.
