Bordesholm: A new place for Heide Simonis
The municipality of Bordesholm in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district honors the life's work of the former Prime Minister Schleswig-Holstein, Heide Simonis, with the renaming of the place in front of the town hall to "Heide-Simonis-Platz". The decision to take this step follows one year after the death of Simonis.
Heide Simonis died on June 12, 2023 at the age of 80 after a lengthy and serious illness, which she had suffered since 2014. Born in Bonn, she lived in Bordesholm from 1977 to 2003 before she was elected as the first female head of government of a German state in Kiel in 1993.
In addition to Mayor Ronald Büssow, prominent personalities such as the Vice President of the Landtag Peter Lehnert and the former SPD state chairman Schleswig-Holstein, Ralf Stegner, will also take part in the solemn renaming of the square. The participation of these personalities shows the broad recognition and appreciation that Heide Simonis has achieved for her political work and social engagement.The renaming of the square into "Heide-Simonis-Platz" not only symbolizes the connection of the municipality of Bordesholm with its former resident, but also reminds of the important contributions that Heide Simonis has made for Schleswig-Holstein.
