Serious accident in Eckernförde: Cyclists disregarded barriers and is recorded!
On Sunday, April 28, 2025, there was a serious accident at the Cathedral Day level in Eckernförde. A 50-year-old cyclist was recorded by a train after giving the closed barriers. The man suffered life -threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital in emergency medical accompaniment, where he floats in mortal danger. Two passengers of the regional train, who were on board with a total of 53 people at the time, suffered minor injuries.
The train driver of the train initiated an emergency braking, but could no longer stop in time. The closed barriers and warning signals were apparently ignored by the cyclist, which is now part of the police investigation. This also found that the level crossing worked normally that day, although there were technical defects in the past. The level crossing is not considered an accident center.
police and rescue workers in action
After the incident, the police blocked the railway line and the federal road B76 for several hours to secure the situation and provide the injured. Over a dozen police officers and around ten firefighters were on site. At around 4:53 p.m. the closure was lifted again and the traffic could flow again.
In view of the dangers of level crossings, the police appealed to all road users to observe the traffic rules. Rail traffic shows take place at regular intervals, every two years to check the level crossings. The next show is planned for mid -May, in which representatives of the police, district, federal police, train and administrations will take part. A similar accident occurred in Nortorf three years ago, in which a 15-year-old girl died, which underlines the continued importance of security measures at level crossings.Further information about the accident in Eckernförde has kn-online.de and mopo.de provided.
