Seehund sensation in Eckernförde: Windy causes a sensation!
In the summer of 2024, a seal caused excitement in the Windeby noor near Eckernförde. The seal, which became known as "Windy", was discovered by Joachim Sebastian, a board member of the Eckernförde home community, during a routine gang. The latter was able to observe and photograph the seal when it reappeared after about ten meters. Experts suspect that the seal came to the noor when the stem gates opened at the Steindamm, possibly looking for fishing. The Baltic Sea and the noor are separated from each other by a narrow channel, and the water exchange takes place via these stemt goals.
The discovery of the Seehund triggered a number of warnings, since seals are considered predators and can transmit diseases in the event of a bite. Peter Klink, the responsible seal hunter, was quickly informed about the incident. First, the authorities hesitated to believe the message because there was no evidence of this. Walkers were asked to adhere to a distance of at least 30 meters and to bend their dogs. The experts pointed out that the seal looked healthy and well -fed and had access to fishing in the noor. However, the exact return of the seal to the Baltic Sea remains uncertain.
