Train connection to Stuttgart: Tübingen reachable again, but with restrictions
Train connection to Stuttgart: Tübingen reachable again, but with restrictions
After several weeks in which the train connections between Tübingen and Stuttgart were severely impaired, there is finally good news for commuters and travelers: from Monday the trains will roll again according to schedule. Deutsche Bahn has confirmed to the SWR that rail traffic between Tübingen and the surrounding cities, including Reutlingen, will be resumed. This means that the citizens of the region can regain their usual pendulum rhythms without relying on alternative means of transport.
The interruption of train traffic was due to the construction of a new bridge between Tübingen and Kirchentellinsfurt, a project that had removed travelers from their destination since the end of July. According to the Deutsche Bahn and Sweg, the construction work is on schedule and should be completed at the desired time.
Return to normality in train traffic
In addition to the opening of the route between Tübingen and Stuttgart, the Ammertalbahn will also be put back into operation from Monday. This route, which was closed for a short time due to construction work, is served again during the day. However, there are restrictions at night and in the evening: Due to a lack of travelers who want to travel later in the evening, passengers have to switch to buses. The last train from Tübingen to Herrenberg will leave on weekdays at 9:46 p.m., while the last connection is made at 7:16 p.m.
The return of the Ammertalbahn is a positive step for travelers, but the situation does not remain without challenges. The train connection again enjoys normal operation, but passengers are affected by the rail replacement traffic in the evening and at night, which is due to many travelers.
criticism and feedback from passengers
The continuing train failures during the summer vacation caused displeasure and criticism among politicians and rail customers. The situation was perceived as unsustainable and the need for a quick solution was challenged loudly. It was originally planned to introduce rail replacement traffic during the entire construction period on the Ammertalbahn, but the DB Regio in the Ammertal decided not to switch off the electrical overhead line in Tübingen Central Station. This could be a possible solution to the problems that occurred during the holidays, but it remains to be seen how the situation will develop after the restoration of the train operation.
The challenges of public transport and the resulting effects on travelers are still a explosive topic. Commuters and travelers in the Tübingen-Schwarzwald region can now hope that the situation will be stabilized and the timetables will be adhered to reliably in the future. The return to normal train traffic is a step in the right direction, but remains burdened by the continued restrictions.
