Analysis of the accident atlas: Cyclists accidents in the region uncovered

study reveals the focus of accidents in the Rhein-Erft district

In a recently published study, it was examined where most accidents with cyclists occurred in the Rhein-Erft district last year. The results of the accident atlas show alarming priorities that require attention.

In contrast to some other regions, there are numerous areas in the Rhein-Erft district in which two to three cyclists were involved in accidents within one year. However, the red areas in which even four or more cyclists were involved are particularly worrying. These particularly dangerous hotspots have to be defused.

A comparison with Cologne shows that the state capital is faced with similar challenges. According to the State Statistical Office, the Zülpicher Platz, Jahnstraße and the Hohenstaufenring with 18 accidents are primarily a questionable focus. The intersection near the university as well as the area of Zülpicher Straße, Lindenthalgürtel and Sülzgürtel also showed nine accidents.

It is important to emphasize that the accident atlas records all types of accidents, regardless of whether bicycles, cars, trucks or motorcycles are involved. This underlines the urgency to take measures to improve traffic safety and to minimize the accident risks in these endangered areas.
