New ZDV President of Cologne Cathedral: Barbara Schock-Werner in conversation

Barbara Schock-Werner will be the new President of the Central Dom Building Association

The well-known former Cologne cathedral builder, Barbara Schock-Werner, is traded as a potential new president of the Central Dom Building Association. This was announced by the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” in his current edition. The 76-year-old Schock-Werner has declared her willingness to take over Michael Kreuzberg's position, which has resigned in May for health reasons.

The Central Dom Building Association plays an important role in the financing of the Cologne Cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With an annual contribution of around four million euros, which is financed by membership fees and donations of around 17,500 members, the association supports 60 percent of the construction costs for receiving the cathedral.

Barbara Schock-Werner was the first cathedral builder in the history of Cologne Cathedral from 1999 to 2012 and in 2019 coordinated German help for the reconstruction of the Paris Cathedral Notre-Dame after the devastating fire.

There is also interest in the presidential post of ZDV on the part of Markus Ritterbach, the former president of the Cologne Carnival Committee and 1. FC Köln. Even if he is currently not represented on the entire board, Ritterbach describes the work of the Central Dom Building Association as sensible and valuable and is ready to get involved again for the cathedral and the city of Cologne.

It is expected that the final decision on the occupation of the presidency will be made in October if the general assembly of the ZDV comes together.
