New VRNFlexline brings flexible public transport in the Gäu from August 25th

The introduction of an innovative shuttle service on August 25, 2024 could significantly change the mobility behavior in the Südliche Weinstrasse district. The new service called VRNFlexline brings a breath of fresh air to local local public transport (public transport) and represents a significant improvement for the connection of rural communities.

improved connection for rural communities

With the VRNFlexline, the municipalities in the "Gäu" receive a flexible transport option that makes it easier for the residents to reach important stops such as the city of Edenkoben as well as regional rail and bus connections. This is particularly important for rural regions, where public transport is often available to a limited extent. The VRN flexline will not only improve mobility, but could also help promote social life in the villages by giving people the opportunity to meet and interact more easily.

Details on the shuttle service

The VRNFlexline will be operated from Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on weekends and public holidays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Passengers can request the service by phone or via a cell phone app, which enables uncomplicated use. A special aspect is that the VRN flexline not only stops at classic bus stops, but also at so -called virtual stops, which further increases flexibility.

important stops and access points

The stops extend over several communities: Edenkoben, Großfischlingen, Kleinfischlingen, Altdorf, Böbingen, Freimersheim, Gommersheim, Venningen, Hochstadt and Edesheim. It should be noted that for reasons of efficiency, some routes, such as the connection between Edesheim and Edenkoben, are not operated in order to optimally use the capacity of the VRN flexline.

support of committees and financing

The public transport committee of the district and the association council of Edenkoben decided in a joint decision-making process to implement the VRN flexline. The additional costs of around 100,000 euros annually are divided between the district and the community. This transparent financing shows the commitment of both institutions for contemporary mobility.

A step into the future of mobility

The start of the VRNFlexline not only represents a significant expansion of the transport infrastructure, but also reflects a general trend: the need for flexible and needs -based solutions in local public transport grows in rural areas. With this new service, the district of southern Weinstraße shows how innovative approaches the challenges of rural traffic can be mastered, which promotes sustainability and quality of life at the same time.

The first test drives are taken by District Administrator Dietmar Seefeldt, Daniel Salm, the Mayor of Edenkoben, and Marcus Weigl, the managing director of Palatinabus. The public is invited to find out more about the new service in the “Im Letten” parking lot on the starting day. This not only represents an invitation to use, but also an important step towards a better networked region.
