Fascinating world of bogs: New exhibition in the Bad Wurzach nature conservation center

dr. Siegfried Roth, the center manager, emphasized the role of bogs as natural climate regulators and nutrient stores. Thanks to their function as carbon sinks, they also contribute to climate protection. A recent event underlines the importance of the Wurzacher Ried: In the floods in June, the moor was able to absorb large amounts of water and thus protect the city from even worse damage.

The exhibition presents the variety of moor landscapes and their residents on six displays. "Specialists" such as peat moss, carnivorous plants and rare animal species play a major role here. Visitors get a fascinating insight into the adaptability of these living things to the extreme conditions in moor.

Michael Eick, head of the Baden-Württemberg Nature and Environmental Protection, emphasized the need for Moorshutz. Moore are not only important habitats for many species, but also crucial for the ecological balance. The exhibition is intended to help strengthen awareness of the importance of bogs and to convey their ecosystem worth protecting.
