26 dead bowling seals on Rügen's coast: Determine the responsible persons!

The mischief has happened on the east coast of Rügen: in the past few days, 26 dead cone seals have been discovered! The first autopsy through the German Sea Museum in Stralsund make you take notice. An infectious disease was excluded, but the animals had water in the lungs - a clear indication that they drowned. Judith Denkinger, curatorial director of marine mammals, emphasizes that this strictly protected species "not so easy".

Most seals weighed about 150 kilograms and made around two meters in length - i.e. strong animals that were well nourished while their organs were healthy. The possible cause is suspicious: it could be that the seals got caught in Reusen - conical networks that are installed on the sea floor to catch fish. The sea museum has already filed a complaint against unknown. The authorities are alarmed and work closely together to get to the bottom of the enigmatic cause of death. For many cone seals, this could be the beginning of the end! Further information can be found according to www.zeit.de .
