Crisis in the Mönchgut-Granitz office: steep coast dropouts and rain retention basin problems

stronger rains lead to a risk of demolition on the cliffs in Sellin

The current heavy rains have led to the first signs of slides on the cliffs in Sellin (Western Pomerania Rügen). This became clear at a crisis meeting in the Mönchgut-Granitz office, which also dealt with problems on the cliffs in Göhren. Head of Office Arne Fründt urgently warned against walking in the immediate vicinity of the cliffs because the floor is softly softened.

A special challenge is currently a rainwater retention basin on a campsite in Göhren, since wild boar have damaged the cable of a pump. As a result, the entire drainage system has failed, as well as Bahnhofstrasse in Göhren. The system is expected to be repaired only at the beginning of the coming week. In the meantime, streets in the Baltic Sea reserves are at risk.

In view of other rains that have been announced, all affected communities are on an increased willingness to alert. It is strongly recommended to take precautions and avoid endangered areas to minimize security risks.

These developments illustrate the effects of climate change on the coastal areas and the need to take suitable measures to protect the population and the infrastructure.
