Protest camp against LNG expansion: Last generation fights on Rügen
New protest concept against pollution: Canoes transform the Baltic Sea into a poison green water
Last Saturday morning, an unusual protest in front of the LNG terminal on the island of Rügen caused a sensation. Last generation activists used canoe to draw attention to their demands. Instead of slogans or posters, they picked up a more drastic measure: they tipped the water dyeant uranium into the Baltic Sea, which promptly turned poison green.
What is behind this unconventional protest? The activists protested against the import of fracking gas, which is obtained under questionable conditions and is considered to be a climate-damaging. They criticized the LNG expansion and called for an end to the funding for this controversial energy source.
Imke Bludszu-wide, participant of the protest, made it clear: "Fracking gas is anything but clean and carries health risks along the entire production chain. It is irresponsible to further promote this energy source and to advance the LNG expansion."
The one-week protest camp on Rügen initiated by the last generation is directed against environmentally harmful practices and the use of fracking gas. In order to underline their demands, the activists plan a large demonstration in Neu Mukran for July 13th. In addition to the last generation, other environmental groups such as Scientist Rebellion, Fridays for Future and NABU will also take part in the demonstration.
The green color of the Baltic Sea through the uranium may appear as a shock at first glance, but behind it there is a clear message: the environmental activists are passionate about the protection of the environment and show the consequences of the controversial energy generation in an impressive way. Your action should help to raise awareness of environmental issues and contribute to a more sustainable energy policy. - nag
