Stralsund zoo opens his gates again after the poultry plague closure

The Stralsund Zoo opens its doors to the visitors on Wednesday, October 9, after a three -day closure! The reason for the temporary closure was the spread of the poultry plague, which was found in a died pelican. The Veterinary Office of the Vorpommern-Rügen district immediately took measures, including the removal of almost 200 swab samples. But the good news: All samples were negative - this means that another outbreak of the poultry plague is missing!

zoo director Dr. Christoph Langner is optimistic and emphasized that no further illnesses or deaths have been registered. Despite the opening, some requirements have to be observed. Access to the pond system remains closed for the time being, and visitors are not allowed to enter bird -accessible systems. Even chickens, ducks and geese remain in their stables. The popular animal show starts again on October 16. Langner is proud of working with the veterinary office and the commitment of his employees and is looking forward to welcoming the guests back to the zoo!
