Daniil Kvyat celebrates comeback in motorsport: Formula E-Test in Jeddah!

Daniil Kvyat, the former Formula 1 driver, is planning his comeback in motorsport. On February 13th, he will compete for the DS Penske team at the Rookie test of Formula E in Jeddah. This marks a new section in his career after he has had an unfortunate time in Formula 1, which was shaped, among other things, by a serious crash with Sebastian Vettel at the Grand Prix in Russia 2016. The accident cost Kvyat his cockpit at Red Bull, and after the 2020 season he lost his place at Alpha Tauri to Yuki Tsunoda.

In recent years, Kvyat has been looking for his luck in various racing series, including the Nascar and the long-distance World Cup (WEC). Despite these activities, a return to Formula 1 was classified as unlikely because it has not participated in a Grand Prix for four years. Kvyat expressed his anticipation of participating in the test and driving a new Formula E-Auto. According to racer he will take part in a 40-minute free training session that has not yet been designed for drivers.

The special features of Formula E

Formula E was launched in 2014 and is the first purely electrical formula racing series that now holds FIA's official world championship status. This racing series appeals to a young, urban audience and has made a name for itself by organizing races on tight road courses in metropolises. As a rule, the programs consist of two free training sessions, qualifying and a race, all in one day. Since the 2018/2019 season, the gene2 vehicles that differ visually and in terms of performance are made from their predecessors. Kfz.net emphasizes that the vehicles can achieve a maximum output of 250 kW in qualifying and 200 kW in the race.

for KVYAT and the DS Penske Team are also other remarkable drivers on the list for upcoming free training. Among them are Mikkel Jensen (Cupra Kiro), Alex Dunne (Neom McLaren) and Théo Poorkaire (Maserati Msg Racing). Phil Charles, the deputy team boss of DS Penske, emphasized the valuable experiences that Kvyat brings from Formula 1, which makes him an interesting candidate for the upcoming Formula e-season.

After his last Formula 1 race at the end of 2021, Kvyat demonstrated his skills in the Nascar Cup and XFinity Series as well as in the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. These experiences could benefit him in the new environment of Formula E and enable him to recommend a permanent role in the team. It remains to be seen how Kvyat's return to motorsport will develop and whether it will find a permanent future in Formula E.
