New star labyrinth opened in Nonnweiler: A highlight for astrotourism in St. Wendel district

Barke creates a new highlight for astrotourism in Nonnweiler

Last Thursday, July 4, Tourism Minister Jürgen Barke opened the impressive star laby in the municipality of Nonnweiler. This new attraction in the St. Wendel district is a significant expansion of astrotourism offering and cost a total of around 163,000 euros, of which 95 percent were financed by the state's Ministry of Economic Affairs from the country's tourism funds.

Nonnweiler, located in the north of the Saarland, is increasingly establishing itself as a tourist attraction. In addition to the new star labyrinth, the Keltenpark and the Peterberg leisure center have already enriched the attractiveness of the community. Astronomy has emerged as an important topic in the St. Wendel district, and the promotion of the country has enabled a successful addition to the existing star viewer spaces in the Sankt Wendeler Land and the Astro adventure path at Bostalsee.

Mayor of the municipality of Nonnweiler, Dr. Franz-Josef Barth was enthusiastic about the innovative concept of the star labyrinth and emphasized its value as an enrichment of the tourist offer. The interactive system consists of 16 star stations that map the stars of the evening sky. Through a crank, visitors can set the stations in motion and get information about the stars via push buttons. In addition, illuminated information boards provide relevant data such as distance in light years or the luminosity of the stars.
