Siren test in Saarbrücken: no danger, but great excitement!
In the early morning hours of Thursday, October 16, 2024, siren signals sounded in several districts of Saarbrücken - but only as part of a test. From 8:00 a.m., the city tested new siren facilities in the districts of Bischmishheim, Bübingen, Herrensohr and Eschringen. According to the announcements, there was never any danger to the population.
This test is part of the modernization of the outdated siren network, which consisted of mechanical sirens from the 1960s until the end. By 2025, a comprehensive siren network with over 50 new electronic systems for warning the population is to be installed in order to strengthen and optimize the warning infrastructure. The test was accompanied by the clear announcement that the test is immediately made as soon as the trial alarms ended. For more information on this topic, see the report on www.tagesschau.de .
