In Saxony-Anhalt there are a variety of apartments that are managed by various actors. According to the 2022 census, around 12.5 % of the apartments are owned by housing cooperatives and municipal housing companies. In addition, approx. 6 % of the apartments belong to private housing companies.

Over 31 % of all apartments in Saxony-Anhalt are supervised by the housing industry. This is well above the overall German average of 17.7 %. However, there is a slight decline compared to the 2011 census.

The division of the apartment owners shows that private individuals are both at the state level (54.2 %) and nationwide (58.2 %) the main owners. The remaining apartments belong to ownership communities, other private companies, government agencies or non -profit organizations.

A look at the distribution in the individual counties shows interesting differences. For example, apartment cooperatives in the Saalekreis only have a share of 5.2 %, while in the state capital Magdeburg this proportion is 23.5 %. With 70.3 %, the Börde district has the highest private ownership, while only 28 % of the apartments are privately owned in Halle.

The average living space of cooperative apartments is 59.2 m², which is slightly below the nationwide average of 62.3 m². The average net rent is 5.38 EUR/m², whereby cooperative apartments with 5.15 EUR/m² are cheapest, followed by municipal (5.18 EUR/m²) and private sector apartments (5.84 EUR/m²). - nag
