Massive protests in Neumünster: Police separate opposing groups!
in Neumünster, several demonstrations occurred on Saturday, January 25, 2025, which led to significant traffic disruptions in the city center. Around 2,000 people took part in two protest events against a demonstration by the AfD, in which up to 150 participants were present. The police reported that the demonstrations were peaceful overall, although there were some trial attempts that were prevented by the emergency services.
A central point of the argument was a blockade of seats that the police resolved. Three criminal complaints were made during the event and four references were granted. The counter-demonstrators tried to block the course of the AfD demonstration, but this was prevented by the police. Both groups met in the city center just a few meters apart, which led to mutual insults. Thanks to the massive police force, however, a direct meeting could be prevented.
traffic disruptions and closures
In the run -up to the demonstrations, the city of Neumünster warned of massive traffic disorders, which were to be expected both in the city center and on the southern part of the ring. Numerous streets such as Kuhberg, large spots, hair and numerous others were affected. In addition, there were road closures between Brüggemannstraße and Friesenstraße as well as on Rudolf-Weißmann-Straße. Vehicle owners were asked to remove their cars in good time because the AfD demonstration began at 11 a.m. in the area of Geilenbek and marched to refugee accommodation.
Meanwhile, there was a opponent on the corner of Haart/Sachsenring, organized by the Greens. Protesters for tolerance and diversity started at 10 a.m. on the station forecourt and later moved to the Greens rally. These demonstrations and rallies employ the local regulatory authority, which sees the approval of the AfD event before the refugee accommodation afterwards.
Overall, the events in Neumünster show how different social groups meet and express their attitude to controversial topics publicly while the police intervene to ensure public order.
