Lübeck in the air quality check: How healthy is our breath today?
On April 28, 2025, the air quality in Lübeck was examined by various pollutants, including fine dust (PM10), nitrogen dioxide and ozone. The measuring station in Moislinger-Allee is used to record the fine dust particles per cubic meter of air. The limit for PM10 is 50 particles per cubic meter, and this may be exceeded a maximum of 35 times a year, such as ln-online reported.
The air quality is evaluated using three main values. The limit values for these pollutants are defined as follows: for “very bad”, the values for nitrogen dioxide are over 200 μg/m³, for fine dust over 100 μg/m³ and for ozone over 240 μg/m³. For "bad" the respective values are 101-200 μg/m³ (nitrogen dioxide), 51-100 μg/m³ (fine dust) and 181-240 μg/m³ (ozone). "Moderate" stands for nitrogen dioxide values between 41-100 μg/m³, fine dust of 35-50 μg/m³ and ozone of 121-180 μg/m³.
health recommendations and measurement methods
Measurements are carried out as an hourly means for nitrogen dioxide and ozone and as an hourly sliding daily remedy for fine dust. According to the reports, around 240,000 premature deaths are due to fine dust in the EU annually. With different air quality values, there are specific recommendations for the population. In the case of "very bad" sensitive people should avoid physical exertion outdoors, while "poorly" exhausting activities should be reduced outdoors. With “moderate” air quality, short -term health effects are unlikely, but sensitive people could be affected. A "good" or "very good" air quality means that there are no health concerns for outdoor activities, as also from ln-online reported.
The State Office for the Environment in Schleswig-Holstein continuously monitors the air quality for the health protection of the population and the vegetation. For this purpose, a network of measurement stations is operated, with the data of which the Federal Environment Agency is supplied. These measurement data are in turn forwarded to the European Commission. In addition, there is a multi-stage test procedure of the published data, initially by an automatic check for validity, followed by a legally prescribed assessment, as in a supplement of opendata.schleswig-holstein.de executed.
