CDU and FDP demand wolf management: protection status under pressure!
The FDP in Schleswig-Holstein, similar to the CDU, has called for effective wolf management. Oliver Kumbartzky, Parliamentary Managing Director of the FDP, described the downgrading of the wolf protection status as long overdue and criticized the “romanticization” of the animal. The liberal plan to bring up the topic during the state parliament session in mid -October in order to pursue a uniform line with the CDU. This demands that the wolves be able to hunt the wolves regardless of damage caused. In addition, certain areas, including important dike systems, are to be defined as wolf -free zones.
At the end of September, EU countries had launched a weaker protection status for wolves in a German voice. The federal government has thus changed its course in wolf policy, but there is no binding regulation. Kumbartzky emphasized that the CDU parliamentary group must now be active. At the same time, the Greens, who rule with the CDU, expressed concerns. Her state chief Gazi Friday warned that the CDU's demands could not be implemented in practice as long as the wolf is not in good condition. According to the Environment Ministry, there are currently two wolf packs in Schleswig-Holstein, one of them in the Segeberg district, which consist of several animals including puppies.
