Hazel mice conquer green bridge: Sensation in Schleswig-Holstein!

In Schleswig-Holstein, a sensational discovery was made: the hazel mouse, a rare and interference-sensitive animal, was spotted on a green bridge over the A21 motorway near Bad Segeberg. So far, the visits to the hazel mouse have been limited to the surroundings of the bridge that was only completed in 2008, but now the animal has dared to take one of the nest tubes and was photographed. This discovery is the result of regular control courses in order to monitor the use of the expensive green bridges by animals that could never get safely across the street without these buildings.

The hazel mouse is considered the largest diva in the animal kingdom of Schleswig-Holstein. In the past two decades, special habitats have been created and optimized for them and other forest animals. It is also particularly gratifying that the hazel mouse could now also be detected on the A20 Grünbrücke near Strukdorf. This shows that the repetition of habitats across streets works and that such corridors can ensure a vital genetic exchange for endangered animal species, as the Nature Conservation Foundation explains according to information www.shz.de .
