Spedition Kruse starts climate protection with electric trucks in Dithmarschen
Spedition Kruse starts climate protection with electric trucks in Dithmarschen
The introduction of electrical trucks in logistics is increasingly becoming the driver of a sustainable change in the transport industry, as the example of the freight forwarder shows.
Fewer CO2 emissions with e-truck
The freight forwarder from Dithmarschen has recently started integrating five e-trucks into its fleet. This initiative could not only contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, but also reduces noise pollution in urban areas. It is estimated that up to 860,000 kg of CO2 could be saved with these electrically operated vehicles compared to conventional diesel trucks.
Use in local transport
The new electric trucks are mainly used in local transport, which brings logistical advantages. Driver Jolick Tiedemann explains that the e-trucks are charged on the depot, whereby the charging takes about two hours. This requires a rethink because the range is now measured in kilowatts.
change for drivers
The changeover to the E-truck also presents the employees with new challenges. While one of the drivers, Jolick Tiedemann, is enthusiastic about the new technology, his colleague Holger Albinus found the changeover in need of getting used to, but is now also convinced of the advantages, such as the higher comfort and the lower background noise.
Lades columns
In order to be able to operate the electric trucks efficiently, the Spedition Kruse has installed charging stations on the company premises in collaboration with the Brunsbüttel municipal utilities. Two trucks can be charged there at the same time. Kruse also plans a massive photovoltaic system that is supposed to cover the electricity requirement from sustainable sources.
E-truck fits the climate concept of the customer
The introduction of e-trucks also meets the wishes of the customers. Among other things, the freight forwarder works with the Jungheinrich company in Norderstedt, which has been relating to strict climate management for years. Project manager Nils Sander emphasizes that the use of the e-trucks ideally fits into the climate concept of his company.
Logistics Association points out problems
Despite the positive developments, the logistics association Schleswig-Holstein points out existing challenges. High acquisition costs and inadequate charging infrastructure could slow down the development towards e-trucks, since only major freight forwarders have the necessary funds. The changeover is considered realistic for city traffic companies, such as package and delivery services.
Calculation of scientists
According to a study by the Fraunhofer Institute, 15 percent of all trucks in Europe will be operated electrically by 2030. The researchers emphasize the need to expand the quick charging infrastructure in order to facilitate smaller logistics companies to start e-mobility.
FAZIT and OUTS
The first results from Brunsbüttel are promising and show that e-mobility in the transport sector is gaining in importance. The shipping company Kruse also wants to rely on alternative drives in the future and is already planning to expand its electromobility concept. It remains to be seen how the markets and the infrastructure will develop, but the first steps have already been taken.
