Stadtwerke prioritize comprehensive fiber optic expansion in Schleswig-Holstein

The Stadtwerke in Schleswig-Holstein are committed to a change in the law to stop the double laying of fiber optic networks and enable just competition. The Association of Schleswig-Holstein Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft (VSHEW) urges political measures to use resources more efficiently and to drive broadband supply throughout the region.

In particular, large telecommunications companies in particular are currently often carrying out unnecessary double laying of fiber optic networks, which leads to a waste of resources. This practice affects the possibility of supplying less attractive areas with broadband internet. The municipal utilities criticize this procedure and are committed to a more efficient expansion to ensure a comprehensive broadband supply.

In order to counteract this grievance, the VSHEW supports the application of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group to amend the Telecommunications Act. This application stipulates that the approval for the laying of additional fiber optic lines in areas already developed. The municipal utilities require a clear regulation that enables the broadband expansion to make the broadband expansion more efficient and use resources more specifically.

Andreas Wulff, CEO of the VSHEW and managing director of Stadtwerke Brunsbüttel and the Stadtwerke Steinburg, emphasizes the importance of a sustainable broadband policy. He calls for a change in the law to improve broadband care in Schleswig-Holstein and at the same time to promote fair competition.

The municipal utilities appeal to the state government to support the application of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group and to work for a change in the law. This measure is intended to enable fair competition and at the same time drive broadband supply in areas that have not yet been developed. Stadtwerke expect a constructive discussion about this topic and hope for a positive response from the political decision -makers.
