Swabian Alb Club Kornwestheim: Christmas magic and outlook for 2026!
An exciting year is coming to an end, and... Swabian Alb Association bei Kornwestheim enriched the last weeks of 2025 with a variety of activities. A highlight was the Christmas market day trip, during which 38 members visited the picturesque town of Kempten in the Allgäu. The city, known for its 2,000-year history and around 66,000 inhabitants, offered a wealth of sights and culinary delights.
The excursionists were able to fortify themselves in a traditional brewery restaurant before exploring the historic streets of Kempten. Particular attention was paid to the wonderful Basilica of St. Lawrence and the impressive Protestant St. Mang Church. The charming old town with its owner-managed shops and cozy restaurants also invited you to linger. The highlight of the day was the visit to the Christmas market on the town hall square, which is considered the most beautiful Christmas market in the Allgäu.
Cultural discoveries in Kempten
Another interesting experience was the auditory city tour, which was led by Ms. Graf. The guide's favorite place, the Ankergässele, has special stories to tell. Kempten's only preserved city gate is located there, which is lined with a well-preserved battlement. Anyone interested in local history should definitely take a look at the pink house. This is the birthplace of the famous Munich folk actor Michl Lang and represents Kempten's lively past. Another attraction is the old drinking fountain, which once served as a central meeting point and information point before modern water pipes were available in households.
A variety of activities are already planned for the coming year. The association invites you to several monthly meetings in the popular restaurant “Applause”. Exciting hikes are also planned, such as the planned tour to the Grünhütte above Bad Wildbad on January 21st; another highlight is the hike to Zazenhausen and Mühlhausen on February 11th. The organizers expect special anniversary honors at the annual general meeting on March 13th.
