China's negotiation tactic: No punitive tariff on Brandy despite trade conflicts
In the middle of growing tensions in global trade, China has announced that it will initially do without the introduction of a punitive customs on European brandy. This decision is remarkable, especially in the context of the continuing conflict between the European Union and China, especially with regard to the import of electric cars. According to a message from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, dumping prices for Brandy from the EU were found, but it was decided not to take any immediate measures.
The decision not to collect tariffs on European brandy falls into a period in which China initiated an anti -dumping examination with regard to this type of brandy in January. This happened in parallel to the steps of the EU, which had initiated an investigation into subsidies for Chinese electric vehicles. As a result, the EU announced that it would raise preliminary tariffs on Chinese products, which would fear a further escalation of the trade conflicts. However, the EU Commission is still in the process of coordinating the specific procedure, and a decision is expected by the end of October.
Reactions of the EU Commission
The EU Commission has attentively noticed the announcement from China. A spokesman for the Commission emphasized that the ongoing examination for Brandy was kept in mind. "We are determined to support our EU industry in a suitable manner during this entire investigation," he said. He also made it clear that the exports from Brandy to China are in line with the rules of the world trade organization (WTO) and there is no direct connection with the possibly planned EU criminal offenses on Chinese electric cars.
Observering interpret China's reluctance to the tariffs to Brandy as a sign that the Chinese government may try to promote negotiations and maintain diplomatic relationships. It becomes clear that the Ministry of Commerce in Beijing is not only busy with Brandy. In July it was announced to initiate investigations into imported pork and its by -products from the EU.
Further studies in China
In a recent step, China also announced an anti-subsidy examination for certain imported dairy products from the EU that concern fresh or processed cheese. This investigation shows that the trade authorities are active in Beijing to check different goods with regard to possible practices and at the same time to develop a strategy in dealing with the EU.
The confrontation between the two business powers is further fueled by the allegations of China, the EU operates protectionism. A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Beijing, Mao Ning, criticized that Brussels ignored the facts, disregarded the rules of the world trade organization and harm himself and others. This conflict could have an impact on numerous areas of trade and is not only limited to brandy and electric vehicles, but also gives an insight into the complex interactions of the global economy.
