Graffiti workshop in Bad Segeberg: joy and shock to swastika attack
in Bad Segeberg there was recently an incident that abruptly clouded the joy of a creative workshop for young people. From August 13th to 16th, a graffiti workshop under the direction of the renowned artist Leroy Sass took place in the skate park, which brought both talent and enthusiasm into the younger participants. This workshop was not only supported by the state funds, but also received financial aid from the Lions Club and sponsors such as the wooden dealer Bernd Jorkisch, who ensured the provision of the wooden walls.
The campaign was a welcome opportunity for young people to live out their creativity and show their skills on legal terrain. "Instead of spraying around in the city, the young people got a completely legal way to try their skills in the skate park," said Thomas Minnerop, head of the Bad Segeberg youth welfare office. The participants were proud of their artistic works until the disappointment followed: just three days after the workshop ended, the fresh graffiti were smeared with swastikas and other unspeakable symbols. This shocked and disappointed both the young people and the organizers.
graffiti campaign is overshadowed
"It was a great holiday campaign. With Leroy Sass we were able to win a real expert from which the participants learned a lot. And then that," Minnerop describes the situation, still stunned by the incident. He had the swastika graffiti removed immediately because such National Socialist symbols are outlawed in Germany. "But spraying the works of the participants after such a short time is simply not acceptable," continued the youth welfare manager.
However, not only the walls of the skate park were affected; The floor was also provided with smearings. Minnerop expressed his concerns about the dangers that would bring damage to the skate elements. "If color is sprayed on it, it is too slippery. It can be really dangerous," he warned.
Investigations run
In the meantime, the Kiel police department has started the investigation. A spokesman confirmed that a corresponding procedure had been initiated without giving any further details. The investigation is carried out by the police state protection department in the Kiel district criminal office. In this tense situation, Minnerop also informed Mayor Toni Köppen and Bauamta boss Antje Langethal about the incidents.
In addition, those responsible propose to install signs in the skate park in order to point out the inadmissibility of racist, sexist or homophobic statements. Minnerop hopes that someone will be found who guarantees regular supervision in the skate park to prevent such incidents in the future.
To further improve the situation, you are looking for ways to win affected citizens as volunteers. When a father calls who was active as a graffiti artist in his youth, the desire for a contact person in the skate park became loud. "If we found someone who takes care of and is available as a contact person, that would be really great," hopes Minnerop.
interested parties who can imagine taking responsibility are called to report to the youth welfare office or the youth center Mühle. The workshop had led to many positive experiences, but the retrospective incident with the swastikas was a serious setback and reminded everyone involved of how important it is to actively work against such acts.
