Bathing lake Sießener saw closed from summer 2024 due to renovation

From next summer the Wagenhauser Weiher, known for its bathing area in the Sießen saw, will be closed for continuing renovation work. This represents a change for residents and visitors who lose an important resort in the region. The city of Bad Saulgau has already pointed out the upcoming measures that are associated with a high ecological and safety concerns.

Long-term planning and necessary permits

The city of Bad Saulgau is currently waiting for a permit law permit that determines the exact start of relieving the lake. It is planned to have reduced the water level by the middle of August at the latest. Mayor Raphael Osmakowski-Miller already discussed the Situation in a meeting of the local council in Fulgenstadt and emphasized the importance of these measures for the safety of residents.

Refurbishment plans and ecological aspects

The renovation work on the dam are essential because it is classified as not stable. In autumn, a specialist engineering office will carry out a detailed examination of the damage and develop a plan including cost calculation for the renovation. The city is optimistic that grants from the state of Baden-Württemberg will provide the necessary funds to drive the work quickly.

Effects on the community

More than 100,000 cubic meters of water are drained, which means a long-term loss for residents who use the bathing lake as a leisure location. Bathing guests can probably swim on the Sießen saw for a week to two weeks this summer before the operation has to be set. Forecasts show that the bathing area may not be reopened until summer 2027.

The environment for the sake of: A positive side effect

A less obvious advantage of the foreseeable vacancy is the natural decomposition of the sludge on the lake ground. This could lead to an improved ecological state of the water in the long term. A healthy lake could not only make bathing more pleasant, but also improve living conditions for fish, amphibians and aquatic plants.

Consequences for the infrastructure

The way the water is drained is not arbitrarily designed. With a targeted reduction in the water level of just five centimeters a day, it is ensured that the mud is not rinsed away abruptly. Otherwise, the adjacent mill channel could broke down in a short time, which would result in additional technical problems.

With a view to the future, this situation encourages everyone involved to deal with the ecological matters of the water. The temporary loss of the bathing area could ultimately serve the feeling of community through sustainable improvements and increase the attractiveness of the region.
