Construction project in quantities: residents are worried about tree felling
In the residential area between the cemetery and the Missionsberg in quantities, there is currently a lot of conversation about a controversial construction project in the Gottfried Graf-Weg. Residents are concerned about the impending loss of the stately tree population, which is not only beautiful for many of them, but also fulfills a valuable ecological function. The plans provide for the construction of two apartment buildings with a total of nine apartments, which drives residents on the barricades. Even if the city administration gave the all -clear to the "Schwäbische Zeitung", many questions remain open.
The mood in the neighborhood is tense. The residents feel over and have the feeling that their concerns are not taken seriously. Although you initially announced your opinion on the project, it was approved about two years ago in the Environment and Technology Committee. This decision caused disappointment with many allies. "We wanted to be a significant voice in the decision -making process, but the feeling of not being heard is frustrating," says a concerned resident.
Trees as a challenge
A central concern of the residents is the old trees that could be at risk. Three large ash, one oak as well as other trees and shrubs, which are of great importance for biodiversity in this region are of great importance. "These plants are not only pretty, but also important for our ecosystem. In the age of climate change, their preservation is crucial," explains another resident. In this context, the city administration emphasized that the monitoring of the trees is carried out annually. But the worries remain.
Another serious point in the discussion is the fact that the construction project is in the landscape protection area. While the city has given an exemption, many residents are skeptical whether this is actually legally and ecologically justifiable. "A lot is done for the client, but what about us?" Asks a resident who lives in the neighborhood. A political body that is responsible for such projects has ignored these worries, which makes citizens even more frustrated.
The short session of the Committee on the Environment and Technology, which only lasted twelve minutes, in which several construction projects were discussed, left a bitter after taste among the residents. The concerns were not discussed there, instead they concentrated on the parking situation, which many occurred as mockery. It is therefore clear to the residents: their truth is not heard.
Criticism and skepticism
The residents are dissatisfied with the procedure of the city administration and have the feeling that the decision-makers listen to more on the interests of the developer than that of the citizens. Again and again this leads to lively discussions among the neighbors. "It is only planned here without taking into account the voices of the people who live and live here," complains another resident of the area. The feeling that those responsible do not communicate optimally increases the frustration of the residents.
The regional council initially critically questioned the plans after seven contradictions were triggered by neighbors. These concerns were dealt with meticulously, and it turned out that the regulations were not violated, which remains incomprehensible to many neighbors. "If the legal hurdles are so easy to take, how will the environment and our quality of life change in practice?" Is a question often heard in the neighborhood.
When asked whether the trees would enjoy significant protection, a spokesman for the district office emphasized that no colorful structures or protected species could be found on site. Residents invest a lot of time in research and communication with official bodies to clarify how the trees are without obtaining the desired answers. "We are committed to our environment, but it feels like we are fighting against windmills," says a resident frustrated.
However, the city administration quickly gave the all-clear that the trees will not be felled on the urban reason. "We have clear guidelines on this matter," wrote the press spokeswoman. In addition, the client can expect fines and orders for new plantings for legal violations. However, the calming of these concerns meets skepticism among those affected, since unclear processes and the fear of their surroundings remain.
