Edeka Foundation starts vegetable beads for Kid's project in Kita St. Elisabeth
Foundation promotes the nutritional competence of children
The daycare project "Vegetable for Kids" starts the new season with an important message: vegetables do not simply grow in the supermarket. Around 3,000 raised beds from small mini gardeners have already been planted in kindergartens and daycards. The EDEKA Foundation thus sensitizes preschool children for a balanced diet.
Thanks to the support of merchant Andreas Leber from Altshausen, who looks after the project as a godfather, the children can learn a lot about growing vegetables. The trained team of the foundation ensures that the kids not only enjoy gardening, but also learn more about food and healthy eating.
The children are encouraged to take responsibility for their beds and to discover and try out new vegetables together. This holistic experience helps you to teach you in a playful way how much care and attention seed needs to grow into a harvesting vegetables.
Over 1,350 EDEKA merchants nationwide support the project by helping with planting, maintaining and harvesting the raised beds. It is important to them to give children a healthy relationship with food and a balanced diet at an early stage. Sustainability is very important, because the bed will also be replanted by the project sponsor and the EDEKA Foundation's team in the coming years.
The “Vegetable For Kids” project has already helped over 1.8 million children to grow and maintain their own vegetables. What started as an initiative in socially disadvantaged districts is firmly rooted all over Germany today. Interested kindergartens and day care centers can find out and take part in the foundation's website about the project.
