Feriendentives on exploration tour

The Solidarity Agriculture (Solawi) Sigmaringen became the setting for ten motivated vacationers on Tuesday. As part of the "Kunst-Garten" workshop of the Sigmaringen youth art school, which is part of the Inzigkofen holiday program, the children were not only able to experience nature, but at the same time shape their own small vegetable garden. This is a valuable opportunity to bring agricultural practices and the importance of sustainable food production closer.

from harvest to your own box

After a first round of getting to know, Anja and Magdalena Maier took over the group management and led the children over the field. When franking red beds and the collecting of herbs and edible flowers, the vacationers got to know the basics of the harvest. An important aspect here is teamwork and the joy of nature, which is promoted by such workshops.

design your own piece of nature

In the further course, the creative design of the fruit boxes was on the program. Each child was responsible for dressing his box with a jute sac and filling with soil. Then the boxes were allowed to be painted at will. This creative process not only promotes children's personal responsibility, but also their creative thinking.

sustainability in horticulture

Anja Maier had ensured several weeks in advance that the plants of beetroot, leek, salad and kohlrabi were present for the children. A particularly instructive part was taking into account the distance between the plants, since e.g. Kohlrabi and Lauch have a special relationship in neighborhood culture. The mulch layer from the lawn cut, which was added to the small gardens, also shows that sustainable agriculture and the protective of the soil are central aspects of the Solawi.

the field picnic as a crowning glory

After the physical exertion, the children were looking forward to a hearty field picnic, in which they could put together a little thing from baguette, fresh herbs and the self-collected vegetables. The delicacies also included the first honey of the Solawi, which brought the children closer to the variety of yield.

anticipation for your own harvest

If the vacationers continue to ensure their vegetable gardens, they can harvest the fruits of their work in autumn. This experience provides valuable lessons about patience, responsibility and the joy of nature, which will remain in the memory of the children.
