The background: In the next state election, a state parliament with over 200 MPs is on the brink, while only 120 places are planned. The FDP supports the initiative to achieve the necessary quorum of 770,000 signatures and to enable a referendum to reduce the reduction of the state parliament. The proposal aims to reduce the number of direct mandates from 70 to 38 and thus reduce the minimum size of the state parliament to 68 MPs. "We want the state parliament to save itself and not keep growing," explains Max Reinhardt, chairman of the FDP city association.
