Ammersee-Ruder triumphs triumph in stormy rose island oxy!
The Ammersee-Ruderer impressively defended their previous year's victory at the traditional Roseninsel-Echter on Lake Starnberg! In brutal weather with only ten degrees, stormy winds and heavy rain, the rowers mastered the challenging route of twelve kilometers - a real test! While some boats capsized, the Ammersee ruders in age group 55 made it to first place with a sleek gig boat after 51:28 minutes, and left their competition from Limburg far behind.
The female young ruders also showed courage: their shortened route of six kilometers completed them in 28 minutes and secured third place. But not only the Ammersee ruders were at the start; Olympic champion Oliver Zeidler also fought for the victory, but had to give up the local heroes from the Munich rowing club, who had the route in 42:20 minutes. Despite the adverse conditions, the record of the Danish National Echter from 2003 (39:07 minutes) remains. More information about this sporting spectacle can be found www.merkur.de .
