New construction of the Königswieser Brücke causes resentment in Gauting

in Gauting is currently high: The construction of a new railway overpass in Königswiesen not only has an impact on the region's infrastructure, but also brings resentment among the residents. A few days ago, the preparatory work for the project started, which is to extend over a period of two years. The measure is primarily a topic for citizens that ensures worry lines.

From January, the renewal of the over 100 year old underpass will begin, which not only enlarges the existing access, but also extends the district road to two traces. A full closure can be expected from March 2024, and the new bridge could be moved into its final place in the fall of this year. The expansion of the district road follows afterwards. However, the fact that progress is inevitable means significant restrictions for the residents.

fears and worries of the citizens

For many of the approximately 700 inhabitants of Königswiesen, it is clear: the coming years could be a test of patience. You not only have to adjust to an increased noise level, but also to considerable detours in your everyday routines. Matthias Ilg, the spokesman for the "oncoming" citizens' initiative, criticizes the situation sharply and reports of an increasing disappointment among the citizens. "The detours of up to 20 minutes will disassemble the everyday plan of many families," he explains in reprint.

The residents not only fear for a long time, but also that the renovation will have a negative impact on their quality of life. The way to school is particularly drastically extended for school children, which many parents experience as a big challenge. Freelancers who approach their customers via Gauting also express their concern. "That could be threatening to exist," says Ilg.

frustration on planning

Another point of frustration is the feeling of not taking any consideration in the weighing process. Some residents believe that their concerns have been largely ignored in the planning approval process. "You can feel a lot of disappointment and resignation," Ilg describes the situation. The process was perceived as unfair, which does not exactly raise the mood in the village. In particular, the suspicion that the new bridge is primarily used for traffic to Starnberg makes citizens even more dissatisfied.

Another bad feeling spreads among the residents when they think of the lengthy construction process. While a bridge in Starnberg was built in record time of one week, Königswiesen remains behind the expectations in the eyes of many. Communication on the part of the railway is criticized as inadequate, since a lot of information about the progress only gets out of the media, while the residents themselves are left in the dark.

"We were never against the bridge renovation," says Dr. Horst Häußinger, who lives on Mühlstrasse. "But we tried to defend ourselves against the fact that the district road is expanded from the forest crossing to Königswiesen to a traffic axis." Many share his concerns. The fear that the bridge will pass heavy goods traffic past its sleeping sites ensures a feeling of helplessness among the residents.

The new bridge also increases massively: instead of 6 meters, it will be 9 meters in width and reach a height of 4.50 meters. A development plan for many on Mühlstrasse since the early hours of the morning. "It is probably over for the time being," sums up Häußinger. The disappointment about the railway technology projects in Königswiesen is therefore great and the residents are unsettled about future developments.

The project can therefore be interpreted as a sign of large infrastructural changes in the region, but also has a significant emotional component that cannot be ignored. People feel threatened in their quality of life and the pressure on the decision -makers grows. It remains to be seen how the situation for the residents will develop in the coming months while looking forward to the construction work with mixed feelings.
