Toys Krömer is moving: Search for a new location in Starnberg

In Starnberg, the closure of a toy business becomes a topic of conversation, but this is anything but a final conclusion for the managing director Christian Krömer. After five years in Hauptstraße 8, the Krömer toy store has closed its doors, but is looking for new premises at high pressure. Krömer wants to maintain his presence in the city and plan to offer toys again soon.

The decision to close was not the result of a sunken sales or changed shopping behavior of customers. Rather, the rental agreement ended regularly after five years, and although there was an extension, the landlords planned other activities for the premises. Christian Krömer, who came to Starnberg from Schrobenhausen in 2019, took over the shops of Toys Schmidt. He reflects "difficult" in recent years and remembers how the pandemic thwarted its business plans.

new location wanted

Currently the search for a new location is in full swing. Krömer needs a sales area of around 200 square meters on the ground floor and firmly believes in the purchasing power of families in Starnberg. "I am convinced that there are enough families in Starnberg who buy toys," he says. So far, he has already visited three to four potential objects, but the right thing was not yet there. Despite the challenges, he remains optimistic.

The location on the main street was not ideal for Krömer. Difficulties in organizing and participation in local events have burdened its business. Nevertheless, he would have liked to continue working in the existing premises, especially since alternatives are rare.

Sparse signs of hope in retail

Despite the setbacks, Krömer shows remarkable resilience. "We have to be careful not to whine too much," he says of the challenges that retail is confronted with in the face of online retail. He sees this as an opportunity to develop further and survive in competition. Krömer is confident that he can keep his foot in the city and that toys continue to expand Krömer.

The success of the company is also reflected in the number of existing branches. 18 shops are called Krömer, including one in Herrsching. A significant step was only taken last year when the family company took over the nationwide branch business of MyToys and operated it under the name Toysino. This takeover comprises 20 locations that Krömer leads with a lot of commitment.

In the city, it is now being observed how the search for a new location will continue. Krömer hopes for a quick solution and calls the public to help by inviting him to submit suggestions for possible rooms.
