Fire alarm in Elmshorn: Wood scales at the old Rewe market burns!

On Tuesday afternoon, October 22nd, a fire alerted the Elmshorn volunteer fire brigade at the former Rewe market on the ice cellar. With five vehicles and 20 emergency services, the firefighters moved out and found a wooden shed fully in flames between the market and a noise barrier to the railways on site. Thanks to the quick use with extinguishing foam, the flames could be quickly brought under control, and the fire was deleted around 5:05 p.m. The rapid measures not only protected the market building, but also the surrounding trees.

Although the scales were only left as a charred wooden scaffolding, the heat was so intense that even the color of the heavy steel doors of the supermarket formed blisters. In order to ensure that the building had not taken any further damage, the firefighters had to leave the delivery doors because the person responsible was not on site in time. Only shortly after 5:15 p.m. there was an all -clear: the fire had not caused any damage inside the market. The police are now investigating the cause of the fire, whereby operations manager Reneè Chandony excludes self -inflammation. "It doesn't start to burn on its own," said his clear statement.
