HSV fails in the DFB Cup: Freiburg stops the upswing!

Freiburg, Deutschland - The Hamburger SV lost 1-2 in the DFB Cup-Tue-round game against SC Freiburg and thus collected the next defeat. After the disappointing appearance in Elversberg, the team showed a reaction, but could not build up enough pressure. Captain Sebastian Schonlau celebrated his 100th competitive game for the HSV, but the Hamburgers had to deal with questionable referee decisions again.

Freiburg took the lead early through Matthias Ginter and increased to 2-0 shortly before the break due to a penalty from Vincenzo Grifo. Jonas Meffert, who played for Freiburg between 2016 and 2018, shortened in the second half, but the red pants could no longer turn the game. Despite some chances, the great pressure failed to do, and Freiburg managed the lead. The Hamburgers are now traveling back to Hamburg to prepare for the upcoming league game against 1. FC Nürnberg.
