Mayor in the storm step: Wind turbines threaten Steinhagen's monument!
Steinhagen faces a challenge: The municipality is investing over eight million euros in the renovation of its listed school, which has been in the works since 2019. But just as the renovation work goes into the final, the news is obtaining: A new spatial planning program is planning to set up 155 wind suitability areas in the region - including an area south of the school, which could directly affect the building. Mayor Hansjörn Butkereit expresses his displeasure: "We had to get the school, but now wind turbines are being built right next to it. This is incredible!" according to information from www.ostsee-zeitung.de .
The planned area lists wind turbines without a limitation of height and comprises 26 hectares - a contradiction to the legally prescribed 35 hectares. Michael Masson-Wawer, Chairman of the Building Committee, criticizes the procedure of the planners and emphasizes the need for a balanced area plan. Resistance is formed in the community: A working group of wind farm opponents from different communities unites their strength to argue against the plans. Statements can be made by November 8, while the municipal council has already rejected the wind power projects. The school's monument protection requirements are of central importance for the residents and the mayor.
