Scandalous opera sancta: Stuttgart remains split and enthusiastic!
The opera "Sancta" continues to cause excitement and will be listed again in Stuttgart in 2025, as Sebastian Ebling, spokesman for the Stuttgart Opera, confirmed in the SWR interview. Last weekend, spectators complained of circulatory problems, and around 50 members of an arch -Catholic group demonstrated against the staging in front of the opera house. 18 people had to be medical care for the premiere. The piece, which treats provocative topics such as sexuality and the role of women in Christianity, is only accessible to viewers from the age of 18.
Despite the controversy, "Sancta" is very popular - all performances are sold out. Ebling emphasized that the resumption of the opera in the next season was planned regardless of the current events, and pointed out that the opera wanted to show topics that are relevant in a Christian culture. The reactions in Stuttgart may be more intensive, since the audience is greater here, which leads to a higher probability that sensitive content is greatly perceived.
