New artificial turf pitch at the Max Slevogt-Gymnasium-one step into the future!
A remarkable progress is imminent from the Max Slevogt-Gymnasium in Landau. The school will receive a new artificial turf pitch in the near future, whereby the work may begin during the autumn holidays. This development comes after years of waiting and countless efforts to find an inexpensive solution in order to better support the school's passionate athletes.
The current state of the sports field has not been particularly inviting since 1987. The chairman of the Sportfeld support association, Stefan Burckhardt, aptly describes the asphaltes next to the sports hall as not very attractive - almost like a prison courtyard. Here the students could only play under suboptimal conditions, which in many cases led to injuries, including painful problems with the knees. Despite these challenges, there is now the hoped-for building permit, and headmistress Stefanie Mehret hopes to carry out the project with significant celebrations in one year-the 150th anniversary of the school and the 750th anniversary of city rights.
of visions and club success
The redesign of the sports field is a long -held wish of the school community, which has already been initiated by several predecessors, Jochen Flohn. He had a clear vision and was motivated to solve the problem before leaving school. Unfortunately, he was not granted to successfully complete the concern. The formation of a support association was an important step in the right direction in order to obtain the necessary means for the improvements, even if it is regrettable that the city did not work directly as a school authority.
a sports field with a future
The planned artificial turf area will not only be a significant improvement for school, but will also create more efficient training conditions for the students. The long journey to the next stadium is no longer necessary, which makes it easier to do physical education in individual lessons. Mehret emphasizes that the teachers are also actively involved in the project, and here in particular the sports teachers Anna Seiter and Nina Grimm are mentioned, which are very committed to the association.
The implementation of the project is not entirely without further wishes. The sponsoring association relies on additional means of installing a ball fence to Hindenburgstrasse and renovating the turrets packed in foils on the historic main building. However, the realistic implementation of these desired projects is still uncertain due to the current budget situation of the city. On the other hand, the willingness of Daimler is positive to donate a 9,000 liter cistern to irrigate the school garden, which is a supplementary resource.
Additional interest in the project shows the continuous information of the support association on the school's homepage. There, donations can also be made to support the artificial turf project, an important way to partially finance the project and enable further improvements.
