Lohhausen meeting: A look back and ideas for the future

The Lohhäuser meeting, which was launched by Professor Karl Schneider and his brothers many years ago, faces challenges and changes. The recent meeting, which took place in Mähring, the organizers were concerned about the falling number of participants. Nevertheless, there were positive approaches for the future.

Future prospects and new ideas

dr. Peter Zwerenz, spokesman for the community of interests (IG), expressed the desire for new ideas in the general meeting in order to maintain the Lohhäuser meeting. The possibility of combining the meeting with the Anna Festival of the Plan-Weseritzer was discussed. Mayor Franz Schöner von Mähring was open and offered to organize the invitations in the future. This should already happen at the beginning of the year to take into account the holiday planning of the participants.

A new appointment for the meeting

Another proposal included an appointment to make the festival on Sunday. According to the better, this would mean that more Czech friends could participate. Those present agreed to this plan. The new appointment should be one week before the Anna Festival in the future. However, there is an exception in 2025, where the meeting on August 9, the 100th anniversary of the war memorial in Lohhäuser, is to be celebrated.

Challenges and progress in monuments

A not too negligible topic was approached by Karl Schneider: the care of the hallway and path crosses. These are the focus because they have been restored but run the risk of falling again. Mayor Schöner recognized the problem and informed that the care of the monuments in the Czech State Forest was not easy, especially after the loss of their Czech supporters. Nevertheless, there was a positive outlook on the planned boards at the former locations of the houses. With funding from the Euregio Egrensis, these should be realized, including QR codes that provide multilingual information.

Memories and Exchange

The day ended with a lunch together in the "Mühlenhof" and a tour of Lohhäuser. Despite the challenges, the participants found joy in exchanging memories of earlier life in Lohhäuser. The organizers prepared new photos and the “memory book” by the Dierl family, which in particular delighted those present and strengthened the cohesion. Nevertheless, it remains crucial to preserve the traditional values and continue to seek support from the community in order to continue to form an active community in the future.
