Neurochlitz: Brandenburg's youngest village celebrates 75th anniversary!

Neurochlitz, the youngest village of Brandenburg, celebrates its 75th birthday on October 7th. Founded on the same day as the GDR in 1949, the village for refugees from Silesia and East Prussia was launched as a socialist location. The first settlers who had already arrived in the region in 1948 came from the badly damaged Rochlitz. They literally created the village out of nowhere, starting with emergency shelters, while the infrastructure was seriously affected in the run -up to the Second World War. The mayor Martin Emling describes that only a sand path existed at the beginning to reach the newly built houses in Neu-Cholitz, which were built from Gartz.

Today, around 150 people live in Neurochlitz. The village is now part of Mescherin and resembles two districts that are separated from each other by the federal road B2. The founding history and the challenges of the early years are firmly anchored in the memories of the founding fathers and mothers. Ruth Oelsner, one of the first residents, says that the arrival in Neurochlitz was initially sobering because they came into an uncertain future without a expanded village. The special anniversary revives memories of the beginnings and the creation of the small heritage, which has developed in the past 75 years.
