In the east of Lower Saxony there was a tragic accident: a 16-year-old youth died after a VW Lupo drove into a moat with two young people. The 14-year-old was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, the police reported. The car that lay on the roof and was almost completely sunk in the water was only discovered hours after the accident - a walker alerted the rescue workers after seeing the car on a dirt road.
According to initial investigations, excessive speed could have been the reason for the accident. The driver lost control in a left turn, overturned and landed in the ditch. While the fire brigade freed the two young men out of the vehicle, it was already too late for the 16-year-old. A blood sample of the 14-year-old was taken to gain further knowledge.
