Weapons and knife ban: Ulm relies on more security for the Christmas market
From October 15, 2024, a large weapons and knife ban comes into force in Ulm city center, which particularly affects the Christmas market. Specifically, this means that carrying knives with a blade length of four centimeters or more, firearms and even pepper spray is prohibited. If you don't stick to it, you have to expect fines of up to 10,000 euros. Mayor Martin Ansbacher emphasizes that this ban should increase security in the city after the police and the authorities have made a detailed evaluation of the security situation.
The weapon ban zone includes the area around the main train station, from Olgastraße in the north to the Neue Strasse in the south. The ban applies especially to the night from Friday to Sunday and before holidays. The police are planning to increase their presence in these times to prevent possible crimes. The regulation is initially created for two years, with a review of effectiveness in one and a half years. Details on the current situation are from www.ulm-news.de provided.
