Improvement of water quality in Hessian bathing lakes

The Hessian bathing lakes show a remarkable improvement in their water quality this season. An expert from the Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) in Wiesbaden emphasized that almost all lakes could be bathing without hesitation as long as the safety rules are observed.
In some waters, however, cyanobacteria were discovered, which warns of increased caution. Especially in the Wißmar lake in Wettenberg and in the Seepark Kirchheim as well as in the prince of Hesse near Darmstadt and Dieburg, there is a potential health risk due to algae blossom.
Important knowledge for bathers
It is strongly recommended to pay attention to signs of blue -green algae because they can be harmful to health. According to official information, 57 of the 61 Hessian bathing lakes have excellent water quality, while the remaining 4 were classified as "good". Nevertheless, caution is advised, especially at a strong accumulation of blue algae.
In order to minimize possible health risks, bathers should avoid bathing with visible algae warnings or unpleasant smells in the water. HLNUG advises you to look at the water up to the knees - if the feet are no longer visible, special care is required.
Effects on the local community
Despite the general improvement of water quality, there were two swimming lakes this season that were not open to public operation-including the Rodenbach lido near Hanau and the Nidda reservoir in Schotten. This decision was made by the local municipal councils, with financial and unauthorized reasons to play a role.
The ongoing monitoring of water quality and increased attention to potential sources of danger help ensure that the Hessian swimming lakes continue to remain safe and pleasant places for swimming.
