Last Friday, the foundation stone for the new main building of the Ratsgymnasium in Wolfsburg took place. Mayor Dennis Weilmann was present to celebrate this important milestone for the progressive new building. The construction, which is estimated at around 25 million euros, is intended to offer a modern training center for around 800 students.

The preparatory work to demolish the old premises began in August 2023, with some historical elements, such as the wall mosaic of Ulrich Olaf Daimel, were carefully preserved. The demolition could be carried out in close coordination with the school, so that the noisy work was completed in front of the Abitur exams. Overall, more than 7000 tons of material were disposed of in this demolition.

The role of the Ratsgymnasium in the school landscape

The council high school plays a central role in the educational landscape of Wolfsburg. Dennis Weilmann emphasizes how the new building complex not only increases the quality of learning, but also contributes to the revival of the city center. The ground floor will include a cafeteria that can be used multifunctionally - both for meals as well as as a lounge area during breaks or free hours.

Future view of the completion

The construction work is on schedule in terms of time and cost. The first city council and city building councilor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide announced that the construction work is expected to be completed by summer 2026. The rooms will then be equipped before the new building can be obtained. With this development, Wolfsburg will make significant progress in the educational infrastructure.
