Discover the history of the Sachsenhain: leadership on the day of the open monument
The Sachsenhain in Verden, a place deeply rooted in history, is the focus of a remarkable leadership, which is led by Wilfried Duckstein. On Sunday, September 8th, Duckstein, who has been dealing with the history of Sachsenhain for decades, will be with interested parties about this significant place. This event takes place in a day dedicated to history, namely on the day of the open monument.
The Sachsenhain, which was built as an SS consecration site during the National Socialism period under the direction of Heinrich Himmler, is not listed in the list of buildings protected as a monument. Instead, it is managed as a "UN memorial". This name reflects the problem that an official building permit was never requested for cutting and building the systems. This brought with it many breakdowns and conflicts that resulted from the procedure of the rulers at the time.
The design of the Sachsenhain
It is interesting that the site comprises elements of a small museum village that consists of Lower Saxony half -timbered houses, which have never been completed. In addition, a circular route, which is lined with 4,500 boulders from different parts of Lower Saxony, is a central component of the system. The National Socialists intended to establish a connection to Lower Saxony through this facility, which they viewed as the core country of their ideology. The aim was to create a place of identification for the Nazi Volksgemeinschaft.Another part of the leadership will deal with the history of forced labor that was used to preserve the Sachsenhain, be it by foreign commands that were connected to the Neuengamme concentration camp or other forms of exploitation. An important topic of this excursion is also the impressive contrast to the current idyll of the site, which was created by the builders at that time. This idyll is often perceived as relaxing and relaxing by today's visitors.
At the end of the tour, Duckstein will also talk about the future role of Sachsenhain in the region's culture of memory. This is particularly relevant because the way this historical place is processed and reminded is an important contribution to dealing with the past.
