Fresh wind in the city: Verden starts the green experiment at Lugenstein
Verden transforms city center into climate oasis: experiment begins
The city of Verden has started an ambitious project to transform the city center into a green oasis and create fresh air zones. Trees and plants are to be placed in mobile buckets and raised beds to improve the quality of life in the city center. Citizens are invited to express their opinion and actively participate in the design.
The experiment begins at the Lugenstein, where high-born trees such as the red-maorn and the amber tree should provide shade and relaxation. Due to the targeted placement of trees and plants, the paving beach is transformed into a climate oasis that will ensure relaxation and freshness on hot days.
A central component of the project is the mobile raised beds that are filled with perennial plants, shrubs and multi -stamped trees. These should not only ensure a green environment, but also serve as a place of rest and relaxation. Furniture made of pallets and temporary seating enables the citizens to enjoy the new city ambience and to get involved.
The project is part of the Downtown project, in which both members of the city council and representatives of the control group "Resilient inner cities" and mayor are involved. Citizens have the opportunity to actively participate in the design of the city center, and a group of students is also involved in the project.
After the test phase has expired, further plans for the Lugenstein and other places in the city center are developed. Ideas should be incorporated into a freedom planning competition, which is prepared by the Downtown Action Forum and accompanied by a specialist office.
The city council has approved the project with a large majority, and the city can expect a funding rate of 60 percent for all expenses. The aim is to design the city center of climate silver and offer citizens a pleasant and green environment.
