The Federal Minister of the Interior and for Home has instructed the federal police to carry out temporary border controls at the Schengen internal borders on the occasion of the Euro 2024. As part of these measures, officials controlled a 36-year-old Romanian on Saturday morning, July 6, 2024, when entering the Netherlands on Autobahn 57 in Goch. When checking his personal details, it turned out that there was an arrest warrant from the Bamberg public prosecutor's office due to theft. The man had to either pay a fine of EUR 1000 or compete with a 25-day sentence. Since he could not pay the punishment, he was arrested on site and brought to the Federal Police Inspection Kleve for further processing.

The Federal Police emphasize the importance of such controls to ensure the security of the population and to be accountable for criminals. In this case, a criminal sought was successfully identified and arrested, which contributes to strengthening the rule of law.
