Thuringia on the way to better mobility: innovative concepts for rural regions

From September 2024, the MoveWell project will be initiated under the direction of the Bauhaus University Weimar, which receives an impressive 4.6 million euros from the federal government. This innovative research project has set itself the task of better networking the rural area of Thuringia and thereby making it more attractive, especially for specialists and companies. While we often read about the challenges of the connection of rural areas, this project would like to offer concrete solutions, a topic that concerns the mobility of thousands.

A central goal of MoveWell will be to optimize the existing transport connections in rural regions through needs -based mobility concepts. Commuters in particular who live in rural areas know the dilemma well: few train connections, rare bus trips and long waiting times can make the daily way to work. The traffic expert, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Plank-Wiedenbeck therefore demands increased efforts to create real alternatives to the car in rural areas. After all, the climatic challenges due to the CO2 emissions from motorized private transport are high.

innovative mobility solutions in the test phase

MOVEWELL follows a strategic approach in three main areas. First, the timetables of local public transport (public transport) are coordinated in order to avoid long transfer times. This is done by the so -called "integral cycle schedule" (ITF), which coordinates the departure times of trains and buses at important nodes of the transport networks. The goal is that passengers can change as efficiently as possible and without long waiting times.

Another work area focuses on the integration of new forms of mobility such as collective taxis or call buses. These should better meet the needs of the residents and increase flexibility in public transport. The breakdown of rigid structures could help people who rely on public transport in rural areas to appreciate and use new, contemporary mobility offers.

In addition, the project will help create incentives for employees in local commercial areas in order to choose climate -friendly mobility alternatives. It is not only checked whether the fleet can be adapted to environmentally friendly transport, but also promotes stronger synergies between public transport and the internal mobility management measures. To support this, MoveWell cooperates with HighQ computer solutions that further develop your IT platform to expand the image of carpooling.

It is also essential that MoveWell is in close cooperation with regional transport companies and the responsible ministries in Thuringia. The aim is to integrate the developed mobility solutions into the existing infrastructures as much as possible. The project consortium particularly checks the integration of these new concepts into the country's regional traffic plans and strategies, which can be expected to have long -term and sustainable influence.

sustainability and social justice in focus

With the implementation of the project, MoveWell could make a significant contribution to achieving the climate goals. An environmentally friendly public transport is not only essential for climate protection, but can also reduce social isolation and ensure more participation. The intelligent connection of rural regions can give economic impulses that also increase the attractiveness for companies and their employees. Not only the ecological footprint plays a crucial role, but also the well -being of the people who live in these regions.

MOVEWELL will not only serve as a test run for an efficient public transport, but also as an example of future mobility in rural areas all over Germany. The project will run until August 2029 and offers the opportunity to develop a sustainable and integrated mobility system that benefits the citizens and meets the challenges of the 21st century.

Overall, Movenewell impressively shows that it is quite possible in rural areas to improve mobility for everyone and implement the mobility turnaround. This could not only increase the comfort of the commuters, but also contribute to the creation of socially balanced and sustainable habitats in which the well -being of people and nature is promoted equally.
